Pedro Nunez Villa Vicencio 1771
Dom 05 Feb 2012, 6:55 am
This is one map I have always been interested in, when I first received it I was told that an attempt to located the other half was made.
A representative of he archives in Spain said the other half was there but they could not release it to the public as it is property of Spain.
I am very familiar with this area and spend much time there, and I will be going this spring to locate the silver mine shown on the bottom above the name "Nunez."
My reasons for placing it here is not for scrutiny, but to try and locate any information about Pedro Nunez, all I can find is a man bearing the same name who was a famous painter who lived some 70 years earlier.
If any of you ever come across any old documents that talk about the Yutah's I would be most interested.
In fact there is a list of place names to watch for.
Please feel free to express your thoughts, and Thank You.

Can you type, the sierra, and the rivers names, via keyboard, in the drawing they are hard to read,
in order to figure up, where the history took place.

I have been to most of the locations on the map, but no one that I know of has found the fortificacion, it is in a very rugged area of country.
Aguas Calientos we call the Hot Pots, 113 degrees most of the time and takes at least 20 minutes just to get in.
By the way, this is located in the Yutahs.
In this area of the North there are many signs along the many paths, Rock Monuments (cairns) and many types, Tree Carvings in Juniper, Pine, Aspen and Mountain Mahogany, occasionally one might find a rock carving. I may post some pictures later.

Thank You very much, however it reads much like the local history taught in our schools. It would seem academics will not acknowledge the early expeditions to the Yutahs regardless of the evidences.
Again thank you my friend...

here in Mexico, in the Geographic institute "INEGI" facilities
you can get a topographic maps where you can see the old mines, although they are out of business.
you can check the map before you buy it, maybe the mine you are looking for is indicated in it and you can see the whole picture and locate the spot named fortificacion.
get in touch with your local geographic institute. you won`t regret it.
and let me know what you find out.
ask for, very old maps sort of 1800

I have every USGS Topographic map that has ever been made of this area, Historic and Modern, 30 minute, 15 Min and 7.5 Min. None show the mines as those who made the maps did not know they exist. I even have maps that long predate the topo maps, I have 3 that show this mine I am interested in and all are old Spanish Maps. As far as the fortification, yes, I would love to see it someday, but it is not likely that I will go look for it again, These legs are getting older.... :-)

The translator does not recognise the words, Any one know what they mean?
I am also, looking for the other half of this map, although it is not needed any longer.
O tradutor não reconhece as palavras, qualquer um sabe o que eles significam?
Eu também estou, olhando para a outra metade do mapa, embora não seja necessária por mais tempo.

I think the word is "Poriente"
The word is written under the sun wich is only showing half of it with a line in the bottom, the sun is hiding.
My guess is that the word was intentionally misspelled and it actually means "Poniente", West.
Following this logic it reads "Minas del poniente oro indigena" West mines indigenous gold.
Could be?

Well, It certainly fits, the mine was easy to find, it is on private property and no more than 50 yards from the main road, yet only a few who know it is there believe it to be an old Spanish mine when in fact it has been there much longer. It was documented or noted as early as the mid 1800's on an old map, as an old Spanish mine.

Has anybody tried to get inside the mine?
If it is a Spanish mine watch out for a death trap, you know they loved to use them

I do not know, it looks as though it was developed in the late 1800's But I have never been able to get to it. I really have no interests in old mines...and I won't go in them.

Tuscoro.
Checking my files i see that i made a mistake interpreting the sun sign, the hiding sun with rays meas the opposite, go east and the rays on it are supposed to be the distance.
What do you think about that? does it make any sense?
